Sharon Chohi Kim is a Korean American voice artist, performer, and composer whose work explores the voice as a site of protest, connection, and transformation. Blurring the boundaries between experimental opera, sound art, movement, and improvisation, she creates immersive, site-responsive performances that engage deeply with space, memory, and the body.
Her practice is rooted in somatic and ancestral inquiry, often addressing transgenerational trauma, cultural memory, and healing within the Korean diaspora. Kim’s work draws from hydrofeminism, ecological awareness, and the interconnectedness of all living systems—exploring the voice not only as a human instrument but as a porous, relational force among water, animals, land, and atmosphere. Guided by a curiosity about science, nonhuman intelligence, and interdependence, she listens for the ways voice might speak across species and elements.
She has performed with the LA Philharmonic, The Industry Opera, Long Beach Opera, and MOCA, with appearances at Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad, The Getty Center and Villa, as well as in caves, tunnels, gardens, and bodies of water. Kim is a Board and Company Member of The Industry, a collaborator with Four Larks, a roster artist with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, a member of HEX Vocal Ensemble, and Principal Voice Faculty at AMDA College of the Performing Arts.
